The Station began with two departments--Dairy, and Field and Feeding. A. H. W. Wood was superintendent of the Dairy Department and G. H. Whitcher temporarily in charge of Field and Feeding. Other personnel were F. W. Morse, chemist; C. H. Pettee, meteorologist; H. H. Lamson, microscopist-photographer; a farmer; and a clerk.

The New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts was founded in 1866 in Hanover, NH. It was removed to Durham, NH in 1893 and became the University of New Hampshire in 1923.
