About Arthur Borror
Arthur Borror is a professor emeritus of Zoology at the University of New Hampshire. He began at UNH in 1961, teaching a variety of classes from introductory biology to advanced honors course in marine biology. He retired in June of 1995 as a self-proclaimed generalist of naturalist history.
Borror was influenced by his father, who was also a naturalist, and spent many summers of his childhood on islands that deepened his desire to become a naturalist. His primary fields of interest are ciliated protozoa, ornithology, and Marine Islands. Borror worked at the Shoals Marine Laboratory (SML) on Appledore Island beginning in the mid 1970’s, teaching students primarily from UNH and Cornell, who jointly founded the laboratory. Students are generally enrolled in one to two of the 20 to 30 courses offer that season where they are able to study specimens in the field and do intensive undergraduate research.
In his over three decades at UNH, Arthur Borror was a highly awarded professor that a positive reputation from students and colleagues. In 1994, he received UNH’s Distinguished Professor Award and the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture Excellence Award. Borror was shortly after awarded the New Hampshire Professor of the Year by the Counsel of Advancement Support of Education. He went on to receive the first ever UNH Honors Program fellowship, funded by the Cogswell Benevolent Trust.
