About Daniel Ford
Daniel Ford was born in Arlington, Massachusetts in 1931 and moved to New Hampshire in 1946, where he graduated from Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro and, in 1954, from the University of New Hampshire. After a year in England as a Fulbright scholar, he served in the U.S. Army and later worked as a reporter. He returned to New Hampshire to write, working for a time as an editor in the University Publications Office.
In 1965 Doubleday published his first novel Now Comes Theodora, set in a fictional Durham during the nuclear disarmament protests of the 1960s. This was followed by two further novels, Incident at Muc Wa (1967), a story about the Vietnam War, and The High Country Illuminator (1971). Ford then turned to non-fiction and published three books on hiking and skiing – The Country Northward (1976), Twenty-Five Ski Tours in the White Mountains (1977), and Twenty-Five Ski Tours in the Green Mountains (1978), the latter two co-authored with his wife Sally. More recently, he has been a contributing editor to Air and Space/Smithsonian magazine and has written two books on aviation history, Flying Tigers: Claire Chennault and the American Volunteer Groupe (1991) and Glen Edwards: The Diary of a Bomber Pilot (1994). Daniel Ford lives in Durham, New Hampshire.
