About Elizabeth Fries Ellet
Elizabeth F. Ellet, (1818-1877), the first American historian of women, was born in upstate New York in October 1818. She became well-known for her collective biographies of women, most notably The Women of the American Revolution (1848).
About the Elizabeth Fries Ellet Letter (Oct. 7, 1847 or 1848)
A two page letter to Messrs. Carey and Hart, Publishers of Philadelphia, Pa., in which Ellet discusses the notices she has written for her new book, The Charm. Ellet also comments on the high price of the book. Also included is a contemporary biographical essay on Ellet and a brief review of her Women Artists in All Ages and Countries.
