About the Farley Family

Little is known about the Farley family beyond the fact that they resided in Ipswich, Massachusetts. A family from Salem MA had at several James Farleys: James J. Farley (1784-1837 - married Elizabeth Wells) and their son James J. Farley Jr. (1810-1842, married Mary West), James H. Farley (1840-1903, married Eliza A. Farley), and James A. Farley (1868-). A Michael Farley built a textile mill in the town in 1830, but his relationship to the Farleys of these letters is unclear. James Farley moved to Boston, from where his letters to his mother and sister in Ipswich are written.
