About Chip Hendrickson (1932-2005)
Chip Hendrickson (1932-2005) was a dance caller and dance historian in the genres of Western square dance, New England square dance, contra dance, and 18th century historical dance. In addition to calling and teaching, he recorded 27 records for the Top Caller and Grenn labels and wrote for the magazine American Squares. Chip began dancing in the Western tradition on Long Island in 1951. Soon he was calling contras and more traditional squares and English Country Dances. During the Bicentennial celebrations of 1976, Chip became interested in 18th century dance repertoire, publishing and recording extensively on the subject.
