About Jacob H. Gallinger (1837-1918)
Jacob H. Gallinger (1837-1918) was a physician, United States Senator, member of the N.H. Legislature, N.H. Surgeon General, and heavily involved in the Republican Party at the state and national level.
About the Jacob H. Gallinger Photo Album, 1893-1896
This photo album depicts the Gallinger family's travels and home life in Salisbury, N.H. There are just over 300 photos, presumably taken by J.H. Gallinger himself. The 1890s date range represents the dates printed in the album, but some of the photos are clearly older given the sheer volume of travel depicted. The photos are clear and well preserved.
New Hampshire locations depicted include: Hopkinton (Shadow Pond, Mt. Putney), Concord (State House, Governor's Mansion, Post Office), and various locations in the White Mountains (Old Man on the Mountain, The Flume, etc.) and steamboats on Lake Sunapee. There are quite a few photos of the grounds and Gallinger family at "The Poplars", their residence in Salisbury Heights N.H. Many family photos include dogs, banjos, or both.
National locations include: Washington D.C. (White House, other important buildings, statues, cemeteries, and gardens), New York City, Nantucket, Atlantic City N.J., Philadelphia, Niagra Falls, Chicago, and many shots of large parades in unlabeled cities.
