About the William L. Bauhan Publishing (originally Richard R. Smith, Inc.)
The future William L. Bauhan Publishing was founded in 1929 in Manhattan, NYC, by Ray Long and Richard R. Smith. The name of the firm was "Ray Long and Richard R. Smith, Inc," which was shortened to "Richard R. Smith Publishing, Inc." between 1934 and 1940. The focus was on college textbooks. William L. Bauhan bought the firm in 1959 and moved it to Rindge (later Dublin, then Peterborough) NH. He also changed the publishing focus to non-fiction works centered on New England.
After 1965 Bauhan changed the name to William L. Bauhan Publishing. Between 1966 and 1971 the firm also used the names Noone House and Smith-Noone House in Peterborough. At least one book from 1971 was published by the Orchard Press (also Peterborough). Today, it is known simply as Bauhan Publishing and continues to be located in Peterborough.
About the Papers (1934-2003)
