About Asa Dodge Smith

Asa Dodge Smith was born in 1804. He was president of Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH from 1863 until his death in 1877. He was also the first president of the New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts from 1866-1877. The agricultural college was founded in 1866 and was affiliated with Dartmouth until 1893 when it moved to Durham, NH. During its time in Hanover, the college shared Trustees and the President with Dartmouth. New Hampshire College became the University of New Hampshire in 1923.
