About the Conant Agricultural Society
The Conant Agricultural Society was founded on September 22, 1898 by university agricultural students to study and discuss agricultural problems. Membership was "open to any person interested in agriculture who is connected with the New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts or with the New Hampshire College Agricultural Experiment Station." The group was very active during this time, with no less than 14 papers being read at a 1902 meeting. It was named after John Conant, a major benefactor of the university in its early days, especially the study of agriculture.
