About Dick Surette
In 1969 Dick opened the Dick Surette Fly Fishing Shop in North Conway and later published his Trout and Salmon Fly Index book of fly patterns. The book was printed in a loose-leaf binder which allowed the owner to add additional updates as they came along. In 1978 he published the first issue of Fly Tyer Magazine, a publication continued by Dick Stewart of North Conway until it was purchased by Joe Migliore and continued as American Angler, the founding publication of Abenaki Publishing. He died in North Conway on Nov. 27, 2001 at age 66.
About the Dick Surette Papers
The collection consists of papers, slides and drawings. There are 2 galleys of the Trout & Salmon Fly Index. Most of the slides are of individual flies and seem to be the images used in the printing of Fly Tyer Pattern Bible.
Many of the drawings and illustrations used in Dick Surrette’s magazine Fly Tyer and in his books are by artisit G. N. Allen.
