About James Farrington

James Farrington (1791-1859) was born in Conway, New Hampshire. He attended Fryeburg Academy (Maine) prior to studying medicine with Dr. Moses Chandler of Fryeburg, Maine. In 1818, Farrington opened a medical practice in Rochester, New Hampshire, where he resided until his death in 1859. He was a member of the New Hampshire Medical Society and served as a New Hampshire state representative, New Hampshire state senator, and member of the U.S. House of Representatives. His nephew, James Farrington (1822-1902), also attended Fryeburg Academy. The younger Farrington attended Dartmouth Medical College and graduated from the Medical Department of the University of New York City in 1847. Shortly thereafter, he joined his uncle’s medical practice.
