About Oren V. Henderson (d. 1951)
Oren Vitellius "Dad" Henderson moved from Kansas to begin work at the New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts in 1915. He started as the Business Secretary for the college and the Purchasing Agent for the Experiment Station. In 1920, he was promoted to Executive Secretary, and then served as the Registrar from 1925 to 1939. Henderson was also elected to the Durham Board of Selectmen, to the New Hampshire House of Representatives, and to the Governor's Council, along with numerous other committees and commissions. During his political career, he was the principal promoter of the construction of the Sullivan and Scammell Bridges across the Piscataqua River. "Dad" was an avid hiker and hiked in the White Mountains, and especially on Mt. Washington, several times every summer. He also did research on the history of the State of New Hampshire, specifically focusing on the Durham area. He died in 1951.
