About the Physics Qualifying Exams

Prior to 2007, the Ph.D. students in the Physics Department were required to pass the written Ph.D. qualifying exams in order to reach candidacy status. The exams were composed by the physics faculty and given at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. The exams were replaced by a written and oral comprehensive exam, and students have to pass both to reach candidacy.

This collection contains examples of old exams that were kept on Reserve in the physics branch library for the students to use as study guides.
