About the New Hampshire College (1868-1923)

New Hampshire College (NHC) Photographs consist of images of buildings from the Hanover campus until NHC became the University of New Hampshire in 1923. Photographs of the Thompson Estate being transformed into a college campus begin with the construction of early campus buildings including the campus landmark, Thompson Hall. Photographs of agriculture students working in squash fields, faculty in the potato patch, fraternities, ROTC cadets, athletic teams, and class photos depict early campus life.

About the New Hampshire College Photographs (1868-1923)

The collection consists primarily of images that were printed by the University department of Media Services after the discovery of hundreds of glass plate negatives on the verge of deterioration in the basement of Thompson Hall. Others were donated to the university by alumni and organizations. The glass plates themselves are not included in this collection; some are available in other collections in the Archive.
