    Arthur Borror is a professor emeritus of Zoology at the University of New Hampshire. He began teaching at UNH in 1961 and taught a variety of classes from introductory biology to advanced honors course in marine biology. This collection is made of notebooks containing field notes and class planning from Arthur Borror’s summers programs at the Shoals Marine Laboratory on Appledore Island.

  • Celia Thaxter, 1835-1894, one of the most popular American poets of the late nineteeth century, lived on Appledore Island among the Isles of Shoals off the coast of Maine and New Hampshire. Eleven holograph letters from Thaxter, 2 photographs of Celia, and poems "Wilheling", "Love Shall Save Us All", "Renunciation", and "Medrake and Osprey" in manuscript hand.

    Hilda Batchelder graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1939 with a pre medical degree. She was the daughter of Roy E. Batchelder, class of 1913. While at school Hilda was a member of the Phi Mu sorority. She spent summers at the Isles of Shoals Marine Zoological Laboratory and became a member of the marine biology club there called the Barnacles.     This series contains films created by the UNH Office of Public Information. Many of them were shot by Clement Moran using 16mm film. They have been converted onto VHS. They cover a variety of campus events from the 1930's and 1940's. There are additional videotapes created for use in museum exhibits.

    “Save Our Shores” was a citizens group organized in 1973 to combat the proposal to build a massive oil refinery to be built on Great Bay just outside of Durham, N.H. Dudley Dudley played an integral part in the fight as a freshman legislator. She sponsored House Bill 18 that reaffirmed towns’ home-rule rights in decisions on large projects such as the oil refinery. The laboratory is located on Appledore Island in the Isles of Shoals off the coast of Maine and New Hampshire.     Sixty-four images (28 copy negatives and 36 additional contact prints) copied from the original 4 x 5 glass negatives in the collection of the Whalley Masonic Museum in Portsmouth, N.H.. These include images of North Conway, the Seacoast, including Durham, Exeter, Hampton, the Isles of Shoals, Portsmouth and Halifax, Nova Scotia.
