About the Clement Moran Era Photo Collection, 1914-1940
The Moran Era Photograph Collection is a compilation of images from various sources which spans the 24 years for which Clement Moran was University Photographer. Many of the images were gifted by alumni or transferred to the Archives by University Visuals or the Office of Historical Records. Although Clement Moran was instrumental in creating a pictorial history of the New Hampshire College/University of New Hampshire during his time as University Photographer, these images cannot be identified as being taken by Moran. They are attributed to him via familiarity with his work and his photographic style.
This collection visually tells the story of early campus life during the last decade of New Hampshire College through the transition to and first fifteen years of the University of New Hampshire. It consists of a wide range of images that provide a visual history of the campus, buildings, agricultural and technology programs and student life in the early years. Also included are formal portraits of groups of faculty and student organizations, reunions, and fraternity and sorority life. Candid images of events such as the May Day Festival, New Hampshire Day, Winter Carnival and Commencement take the viewer back in time. Early athletic team photos and live action of the hockey players on the outside rink are some of the favorites in the collection.
