    Walter Kittredge was born in Merrimack, New Hampshire. He was a self-taught musician who wrote over 500 songs throughout his career. His most famous song was "Tenting on the Old Camp Ground," which was sung by both sides during the Civil War. From Reeds Ferry, N.H. Walter Kittredge writes a letter, Dec. 29, 1900, to Lizzie G.     The Army Reserve Training Program was created at UNH as part of the Morrill Act, and was taught as part of the curriculum from 1893 onwards. One large "Certitificate of Distinction" awarded to the University of New Hampshire for training of soldiers in the "Army Specialized Training Program during World War II." He mustered in Company D, of the Fourth Infantry Regiment of New Hampshire Volunteers on Sept. 18, 1861 as a captain.
